Cheap Eats

One of the best things about LA being so big is that there are a variety of places to eat, some are a little pricey but portions are big and sharing makes it inexpensive. There is always a work around, so I never cheat myself from a day out and still keep the wallet full.   As I explore Cheap Eats in LA, I will add them here to my blog.  I hope you will enjoy the journey and find a hidden treasure here and there.

Why I Love It

This is one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. Not just because the myriad of options for food, but because of the design of the floor plan. It feels like you’re stepping into a busy New York market. In the heart of DTLA, this market used to feed the mouths of stars like Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe. They also hold events like Game Night!

This is probably the cutest nail salon I've ever stumbled upon. Decorated impeccably, my heart just melted the second I walked in! My favorite part about this salon is that it doubles as a cafe! You can walk in and order a drink, without purchasing a mani or pedi. Also, can we talk about how picture perfect this patio is?

The unique flavors! I personally love the Pasadena location due to the design. A re-modeled old-time gas station on Green Street turned modern but has a clean, vintage/classic feel that is as fun as their ice cream and the MilkyBun!  This is the perfect place to go for dessert if you are in downtown Pasadena or coming from Huntington Library.

Fine wine, hot dogs and pinball??? Sounds like the perfect place! Walt's Bar is one of my favorite spots in Eagle Rock. It's completely my style, in its retro old school fashion, to it's pinball lined up on the back wall. Walt's is a small spot, so it's the perfect place for a date! It's down the street from Occidental College, so it can fill up with students pretty quickly at night.

Olvera Street is a little strip of road tucked in the corner of Downtown LA! It's a great place to get some yummy authentic Mexican food and buy a t-shirt with Frida Kahlo's face. I love going here to buy Sarape blankets (I have one for my car, my bed, my travel...) and other little goodies for my friends and family.

This coffee cafe is one of Los Angeles' best kept secrets. A non-profit coffee house located minutes away from Venice beach and sitting on the edge of Culver City.

Jeni’s uses whole ingredients and dairy from grass-pastured cows, making you a little less guilty about your indulgence. They also have cute gifts for sale in each store!

Jeni's has more than one location in Los Angeles. but my favorite is the Loz Feliz location. It's perfect for a day out to visit Sop Plant Wacko, Homestate, Barnsdall Park, etc!

The latest addition to Echo Park Lake, this cute cafe is RIGHT on the water. They have a great menu, with various options to appeal to whatever mood you may be in. Their salads and acai bowls are perfect for a hot day! They also have tea and coffee for those who need a pick-me-up. All seating is outside to enjoy the water, so grab a seat under the umbrellas.

The best sandwiches in the Arts District, especially paired with a yummy drink. They offer free parking in their parking lot (which is rare for DTLA) and have a back patio!
