When I am not pursuing my acting, filmmaking/editing dreams or running my non-profit (bio), I'm just a girl who wants to get out and explore this amazing city.  Living on a tiny budget is my reality, but I never let that hold me back from having fun!  I am always looking for things to do that don't break the bank or offer a new perspective of LA.  Join me and discover LA on the cheap.

Why I Love It

Occidental College is the home to alumni such as President Barack Obama, Luke Wilson and Ben Affleck. It's also where they filmed a large part of Clueless (1995). I mostly love this campus because it's so gorgeous! It's a perfect mix between old and new buildings, covered in trees and completely open to the public. While it's obviously busy during school hours, Winter and Summer break are great times to go and wa...

Why I Love it

The park is huge! Just like any park, Lake Balboa is perfect for walking your dog, taking a run, yoga, a picnic, etc. The lake is so big that people can spread out around the lake and not feel like it’s crowded. What makes this park special for the San Fernando Valley is that it holds over 2,000 Cherry Blossom trees! The trees usually bloom in the spring.

What to Do

There are bike and paddle boat rentals! (The boats...

Why I Love It

Its always so refreshing to find a garden big enough to make it feel like you’ve escaped the city. This garden does just that with three acres; it’s filled with a variety of plants, it’s easy to get lost!

What to do

Soak in the sun or take a book to read. There are seating areas nestled within the gardens, along with a serenity circle!

Tip

There aren't any public bathrooms in the park. Bring a picnic and...

Why I Love It

A breather from the busy life of Silverlake . This park is incredibly unique with some great history. It's my place to relax and take in a direct view of Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign. If you want more than a spot to picnic and take in the views, you can walk over to the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, take some time to learn a little LA history, tour the Hollyhock house, take some art classes, an...

Why I Love It

Seriously one of my favorite places to hang with friends. It is really conveniently located near vintage stores, inexpensive bakeries, vegan restaurants, the Echo Park Farmer’s Market. Only 30 minutes from downtown and right off of the 101, it is pretty easy to get to and offers cross-cultural experiences. From one end of the lake you have a great view of Downtown and its home to a variety of Lotuses and birds — i...

Why I Love It

It feels like you’re on vacation. I love the design of this neighborhood and the uniqueness of the canals between the island. Not to mention dreaming over those houses! When you are done kayaking, you can hang on the beach, walk to Belmont shores, etc.

What To Do

Kayak around the canals (and visit the jellies!), go for a swim

TIP

If you haven't kayaked before, they have a little video to help you out. You can dr...

Why I Love It

It’s free, it’s beautiful and a pretty good workout! Pt. Vicente is located along the Palos Verdes Peninsula. It's a beautiful lighthouse and one of my favorites. It is a great place to whale watch and picnic, too. Depending on which way you walk along the trail, you can head over to Terranea Resort. The free part isn't staying at the resort, but it is beautiful and there are tons of free walking and hiking paths...

LA has more than cityscape, surfing and tourism.  Us locals love our nature spots, too.  From cliffside to waterfalls, LA has it all. As I explore our trails, lakes, secret stairs and waterfalls, I hope they inspire you to get out and see a different side of LA too.
